The Latin Grammy’s were great as always, good vibe great people and amazing food! And even though the day of the show there were a few bumps on the road it all turned out to be great, a super hero saved the night and it was amazing!! But with my luck the trip to Houston couldn’t end all peachy!!!…
Instead I ended up in the emergency room!!! It was the worse!!! All of a sudden I started having this bothersome pain on my left lower back and I thought nothing of it. Then the pain moved to the left side of my abdomen so I thought ok I ate some bad food and kept going on about my business. All of a sudden the pain got bad, really bad… I mean I couldn’t even walk, breath, speak bad. Somehow I managed to get back to my hotel room (mind u this happened while I was driving) little me was trying to be all tough and I decided to ride it out…
Yeah, that idea lasted about 1 minute. I was sweating and shivering cold with unimaginable, horrible pain. I’ve never had such pain in my life. Nor was I aware one could feel this much pain. This pain was so bad I wouldn’t even wish it on Bin Laden. It was horrible!!! I dragged my self to the phone and somehow dialed 911 (I don’t really remember this because the pain was so strong)… The ambulance finally gets to my room and they find me collapsed near the door. Apparently I tried to walk to open the door but didn’t make it. By this time I’m on a stretcher in excruciating pain getting rolled into the ambulance. The EMT who was helping me was asking me all these questions and I couldn’t answer any of them. Later I found out he was new and it was his 2nd day, poor guy.
On the way to the E.R my pain had intensified by 100,000,000 million times I ripped of my oxygen mask and took off the stretchers security belts. The EMT was trying to keep me calm but was not successful at all. We finally get to the hospital after what seems like an eternity. As soon as I’m rolled in I get bombarded by a bunch of questions that I could barely answer. They immediately admit me into a room, put all kinds of needles IV’s and cables on me, draw my blood and check my vitals. But still at this point I had NO idea what was going on with me and why I had this pain all I could say was “help me”… I’m really surprised that I didn’t cuss them out. Seriously I felt soooooooo much pain I was not coherent at all. I was very nauseous so they gave me medicine and some strong drugs for the pain. They tell me that it could possibly be an appendix rupture, liver failure or maybe kidney stones… What??? Immediately I tell them to please “not cut me” meaning I didn’t want surgery I’m telling you I couldn’t think straight… The drug starts to kick in and the pain begins to subside as that happens I’m able to provide them with more information and they give me more medicine so I can feel well enough to go get CT scans of my abdomen… About 40 minutes pass and I go get the scans. When we are done the technician tells me there might be “something” in my kidneys… I’m thinking great just what I needed my flight is leaving in about 9 hours and I’m in the damn E.R in Houston!!! Talk about the wrong place at the wrong time… The doctor finally comes in and proceeds to tell me that he read the scans and that they have found several YES!! “Several” kidney stones on both my right and left kidney and all the pain I just had was from me passing a kidney stone!!!
IT HURT A LOT!!! So to think I have 3 more on my left kidney and “several” more on my right. If several is more then 3 I’m thinking great I’m screwed!! Just f-ing great!! If it hurt this much just for one little one I don’t even want to think of going through this “several” more times. Especially if they decide to come at such inopportune times and with my crazy schedule the chances of this happening are high! I couldn’t believe how much this hurt. I have a high threshold for pain but this was unbearable!! The nurses tell me that they have had quite a few of their patients who have had kids through completely natural labor with no drugs whatsoever and later had a kidney stone pass say that the kidney stone hurt a whole lot more then natural labor. I can’t believe that a damn stone hurts a whole lot more then natural birth with no pain killers… THAT’S CRAZY!! COMPLETELY INSANE & SUPER BANANAS!!!!
A few hours go by and I feel a whole lot better. It was a complete 180… The pain was being covered by the drugs they gave me… (God bless who ever invented it) The nurse comes to my room to check on me and asked how I was feeling I said a whole lot better and she says “you can tell because you have color on your skin again” I just started cracking up because I’m pretty dark and for my color to “go away” well lets just say that’s really though haha!! They give me recommendations on how to treat the calcium stones some more pain medicine, write me pain prescriptions and leave me there to get more fluids on me because I was dehydrated as well. At this point I’m finally felling a whole lot better and they discharge… I get brought back to my hotel and then taken to the pharmacy to get my prescription filled. The last thing I wanted was to go through this horrible pain again in an airplane. Needless to say I didn’t sleep at all that night. I just decided to stay awake and go to the airport my flight left at 10am anyway so no point in trying to sleep…. When I felt better I decided to take a few pictures while in the E.R… We have to be able to laugh at ourselves even when we are at the worse situations. I’m a strong believer that humor makes everything better. A good laugh is great medicine! …. The staff that helped me was AMAZING super nice and treated me like a queen… Thank you. You’re the best!!!
I hope that none of you ever have to go through this but…. if you have let me know your story!!! I want to hear it. Apparently these calcium stones that hurt like hell are more common then I was aware of….
Wishing you all nothing but health, and happiness….
Your friend,
Jeannena
